This larger than usual full hunter cased pocket compass measures 55mm in diameter and dates to the early 20th century pre WW1 period.

The steel directional needle pivots beneath a chip free bevelled glass on a gemstone bearing for reduced friction, above a paper dial with 8 cardinal and intercardinal points, incorporating a full 360 degree outer scale.

In good working order finding North consistently, the snap fit lid also engages the transit lock to hold the needle securely in place to minimise wear when not in use.

An unsigned example weighing just 80 grams, it's housed in a dent free nickel plated brass case with a strong hinge, and is still a practical compass for use today.
