This turn of the century pocket barometer and altimeter is signed 'FRANKLIN.HARE & GOODLAND Ltd, TAUNTON', and housed in a gilded brass case.

Compensated for temperature, the clean silvered dial has a barometric scale ranging from 23 to 31 inches with a rotating altimeter scale for altitudes up to 8,000 feet and is in good working order, with the needle rising and falling under pressure.

It comes with a 19th century Black Forest pocket watch stand holder, superbly carved with acorns and the name FREIBURG, the city commonly known as the capital of the Black Forest. Although the stand and barometer were made at different times they are a good fit, making a combination that works well as a display.

Both items are in good cosmetic condition, with the barometer only having some gilding loss in places, and the wooden stand having a minor age crack on the top left, plus the odd inactive worm hole. These are minor defects I mention only for accuracy and do not impact on the functionality of the barometer, nor the aesthetics of the stand.

Together they weigh 160 grams, with the stand measuring 115mm long closed and 110mm high when displayed.
